This doesn't answer your question directly... but...
Best thing is to use a Text Editor such as as Notepad, or Text Pad (from
http://www.textpad.com/ ) to edit files such as catalog.cfg. Text Pad is
good because you can save in PC, MAC or UNIX format. It also makes
insertion of control characters easy.
