[mv] Multiple database usage question
****** message to minivend-users from John Foster <jfoster@augustmail.com> ******
I have read that MiniVend 3.14 can utilize multiple databases per
catalog. The instructions listed in the MV documentation does not give
much detail other than the fact that it is possible, referencing
"Arbitrary Databases". I have also read ALL of the references in the
mail list archives without finding the answer to my questions.
I want to be able to use 4 discreet tab delimited ascii text databases
including the products.asc file. I need to have the search engine locate
a selection of products and display them from the products.asc file:
from the displayed products the customer can select to buy or for more
information. If more information is selected the search engine would go
to another database and pull up facts regarding the particular item
being surveyed. It would then use the information to fill out a pre
designed fact sheet. The field arrangements of the tables are quiet
different between these databases.
EXAMPLE products.asc:
code model vendor description price
0001 12 intel cpu 1.00
0002 38 asus MBoard 2.00
EXAMPLE specs.asc
code model attribute1 attribute2
0045 12 500mhz MMX
0046 12 3.5 volt w/fan
0047 12 Slot2 PentiumIII
These examples are very simplified compared to the actual databases, but
you get the idea. Both databases are quite large. The other databases
are also not similar to products.asc. They are to be accessed in the
same manner as the specs.asc but are for providing information relative
to the various categories of products and the different manufacturers.
My question is, has anyone done this or anything similar and if there
are any other docs regarding this. If not I am certainly interested in
any tips or suggestions. ANY help is appreciated.
