Hi, I had the same problem and it has worked with [loc]. If it still
doesn't work, try this.

-Reload twice the page. On my catalog, reloading twice used to "finilize
"the translation: some words wasn't translated at the first load, and I had
to reload to translate everything. I fixed this replacing [L] with [loc].

-If it's not that, it must come from your locale database. If you are using
minimate it should be easy to check. If not, just edit your locale.asc and
check all the tabulations: you probably forgot one
