2nd catalog, MiniVend server is unavailable
Hello there,
need some help again. It's really crazy with that UNIX system. Just having
solved the one problem I get the next.
I've had the problem that my cgi-bin directory wasn't configured correctly
by my ISP. On the tip of Kyle I've made a separat cgi directory named
/www/cgi-homa now and got the first simple demo-catalog work. Very nice!
I didn' want to touch that running catalog to change it for my needs to
remain a running system I can look back when something is wrong with my own
developed catalog. So I decided to install a second catalog to which I
wanted to copy my own developed changes. I did a _makecat gallery21_ and
created the catalog exactly like the first simple catalog. After that there
were two catalogs in my minivend.cfg:
Catalog simple /home/homa/catalogs/simple /cgi-homa/simple.cgi /simple
Catalog gallery21 /home/homa/catalogs/gallery21
/cgi-homa/gallery21.cgi /gallery21
After restarting minivend with no errors the first simple catalog runs quite
well, but executing the second catalog I got the well known error _We're
sorry, the MiniVend server is unavailable..._. What a mess!
Looking to the docs I found
http://www.minivend.com/minivend/faq/03.02.We_re_sorry_the_MiniVend_server.h
tml
and tried that _chmod 666 etc/socket_ and got the second catalog to work.
Quite nice!
But what's to do now? I'm not very experienced with UNIX. I can use it, but
I'm not able to configure. I'm not shure if I understood the rest of the
text. All my files on my virtual server (and I meen all) have the user
_homa_ and the groop _homagrp_. All new files created by the automatic
minivend-installation have that same user and groop. What could go wrong
then?
First in UNIX mode I tried INET mode with the same result. First catalog
works, second does not. _chmod 666 etc/socket_ and the second catalog works
too.
If I understand the text in that above FAQ, and I am on a virtual hosting
system, I have to consult my ISP.
Anyone with another idea or have I really to consult my ISP again.
Sencerely
Holger
