The locale.asc database is very delicate, i.e. if you add a TAB by
mistake the whole database may get corrupted. Also you must be careful
about using an editor. If you do not edit locally but on a DOS system,
make sure you ftp the file in ASCII mode (assuming that you run MV on a
Unix type system).
I use locale a lot and usually edit it in Excel, then transfer it to the
production server. In this case, you should add a line to your
catalog.cfg like
Database locale.asc EXCEL 1
or use one of the conversion programs that remove unwanted '"' (quotes)
that excel adds to fields that contain "strange" characters like Umlauts
or such.
