I just loaded Red Hat 6.0 Ecommerce edition today and when I tried to
install the MiniVend rpm from the console I got line after line of "user
pbrown does not exist, using root instead". It installed but would
never start etc. Kept getting permission denied errors. Fooled with
permissions for about an hour and each step of the way something new
would crop up as an error so I dumped it and installed the
minivend-latest.tar.gz and had it running in about ten minutes.
I started out by creating a user minivend. Then ran ./configure and
chose /usr/local/mvend for vend root. At the end where you create a
catalog I told it minivend would be the catalog owner and just did the
simple catalog to test with. I did all this as root and when it started
the server it started it as the minivend user. Is there any drawback to
installing this way? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
