Hi Max,
look for search.profiles (simple/etc/search.profiles). You can change
the mv_matchlimit=50, but if a lot of items is to show via the results
page, mv need more time to create and parse a html file. I would prefer
to use this code

Matches [matches] of [if value mv_search_match_count > 1] [value mv_search_match_count] found.[/if]

and to set the matchlimit lower (i.e. 10). Look into the results,
browse and browse1 page in you simple catalog. You get suggestions from
this page.
