Re: adding non-databse items to cart
Ever so helpful list :
I think it's impossible to add non-database items to the cart (could be wrong,)
but...
I've been thinking about this, and what I thought up was using one database for
each different computer model. Placing the base price for each model in the
products.asc file and using a one click search and an attractive results page
to display the models. ordering a model would place it in the basket and on
the basket page I would create a "Customize your computer!" button. that
button would be a link to another search that would display a number of drag
down boxes containing [order] tags or whatever (not going to go into specifics)
so that the cust can choose the CPU upgrade / disk size / massive amounts of
RAM as they wish and place a button at the bottom that would allow them the
order all those customizations (ie, put them in the basket and calculate the
price.) then, if they no longer wanted that 20G SCSI disk and controller card,
they could use the basket to remove them and recalculate, and so forth. then
the report sent to you would be
Basic computer -- $50
500MGz processor -- $50
6G or RAM -- $50
sub-total -- $150
tax, sales, etc
logically, this makes sense to me. what do ya' think?
I won't be paying too much attention to the list for the next 2.5 weeks (going
on tour w/ PHISH,) so my responses will be thin to none for a while. good luck.
