Thanks!, that fixed the [var xx] substitution problem. I missed the step of merging my old minivend.cfg 
with the new minivend.cfg.dist that gets put into the main directory.

I still have the menu bar problem however. The menu bars are displayed, however the minivend tags
also show up above to bar buttons. This happens for both MENUBAR and MENUBOTTOM you can see 
what I mean at http://www.cwe.com/demo/simple
