First see if you have mysqld running
$ mysql test
If mysqld is running you'll get a couple of lines like
calafia:/home/dan $ mysql test
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 75172 to server version: 3.22.8-beta
Type 'help' for help.
mysql>
type in quit to exit the mysql monitor.
To see if you have DBI::DBD installed correctly write a small
perl script to exercise all the pieces. I posted a 20 line script
demonstrating this a while back. A search for
DBI->connect
in the archives should turn it up.
