Response bogging down over time
****** message to minivend-users from "Michael E. Havlicek" <havlicek@infinet.com> ******
Hi All,
I am new to the group.
First I admit that I haven't read through the whole mail archive or all of
the docs.
I have been given a short deadline to replace shopping capabilities now
provided by "Intershop" (intershop of horrors:) with MiniVend.
I was given 2 weeks to do the transfer....
I am getting close to creating a test site that uses minivend just for the
shopping cart.
The big problem I am dealing with is that the site I am dealing with
already has a custom sofisticated dynamic engine.
In a nutshell, we generate a site consisting of about 3500 products.
It is dynamically based upon a perl script that generates pages based upon a
tree traversal that sniffs out "templates" and builds html
Big fun was accessing the minivend shopping cart from our own cgi that
built our webpages. I ended up calling the sidepanel (navbar) through minivend
to get a SID and hiding its value in a hidden frame with javascript..
I then go to our own cgi to generate product pages and grab the SID out
of the hidden frame using javascript to generate a button that went to
the minivend cart for the final product page. (sorry for the bad english:(
The site I am developing a replacement for is "www.jegs.com".
To the point.... the disturbing thing that I found was that hacking the
simple catalog base demo using defaults lead to a minivend who's performance
went to a grinding halt after 2 days.
I saw that there was an internal httpd that was discouraged. Perhaps I
am using that?
Restarting the minivend daemon sped things up.
So do I have to restart the minivend daemon daily or less to keep performance
reasonable?
I found the instructions during installation very confusing regarding
the internal httpd (in installation it talked about an htttpd...:)
