MV ISP for $24.95

****** message to minivend-users from Sal <Truffles@concentric.net> ******

Hi all!

With Christmas and Valentine's Day behind me, I'm back and ready to fine
tune my MV site. Throughout my busy season, I somehow always found time to
read your postings, and learned a lot by simply reading. Thank you for
that! I can't believe how far I've come since last October when I thought
UNIX was Robby the Robot's evil twin... ;-)

As for the "inexpensive ISP" question, I think the archives would cough up
a few more answers... but as I've stated before, researched this via the
web for awhile before selecting a server from the Minivend ISP list on the
Minivend site.

**NOTE TO MIKE**: The Logo graphics on the Minivend ISP page are so tiny
as to be mistaken for bullets... you might want to make them just a *touch*
bigger... ;-)

I selected MaxImact <http://www.maximpact.net> (which I notice is no longer
listed as a Minivend ISP on the MV site - an oversight during revamping,
perhaps?) and have found them to be extremely responsive and supportive
with regard to MV - they even install the basic MV program demo to your
site for you (both framed and non-framed versions) and, as long as you are
willing learn and to do the bulk of the work yourself, they give you
wonderful support throughout development. Nice people, nice service - Here
are the specs...

Their packages run from $9.95 all the way to $249.95/month... but Econo
Virtual Pro Account is $24.95 payable via Credit Card (with setup waived if
you're moving from another provider) That price includes:
True Virtual Host with Static IP address (www.yourdomain.com)
           50 mb storage
           3 gigs traffic (additional @ $0.05/meg
Domain Name Registration (excluding the $70 internic fee)
           Support for FrontPage 98
Your own Secure Web (SSL) directory
           Your own MySQL database
           Your own cgi-bin directory
           Direct access via FTP
           Direct access via Telnet
Multiple connections for backup and redundancy
High performance, carefully managed, web servers
           Multiple POP3 Mailboxes per account
           Unlimited mail forwarding
           Access to raw access_log files
           Server Side Includes (SSI)
           Email Forms
           Expect
           Crontab
           cgiwrap
           Full shell account
           Full Unix development environment
           Perl (5)
           Tcl
           GCC
           Python
           Connect via Samba
           Your own mSQL database
           Your own Minivend shopping cart
            Your own PerlShop shopping cart
            PHP3 capability
            mod_perl capability
            Real Audio
            Real Video
            TrueSpeech
            Auto-responders
            Mailing lists
            Glimpse
Free FrontPage, mSQL and Minivend setups
Free set-up if moving from another provider

As far as security goes, you have to share their certificate, which doesn't
seem to work with MV... so I bought my own. I recommend Thawte. They are
fast, friendly and seem to offer the same product as Verisign at a fraction
of the cost. ($125 for the first year... $100 a year thereafter.)

Best of luck... hope this helps!
