Perl 5.005_03 is two-and-a-half years old. 5.005 as a release is over 3
years old. That is an eon in Internet time.
5.6.0 has been out for 17 months.

It is a bogus build.
Try:
cd ~/interchange
cpan_local_install DBD::mysql
