[mv] Filters on Meta Information Edit screen?

Hi-

I was just trying to customize the display (in the Admin UI) of some
fields in my products table, and cannot figure out how to enable a
multi-select box.

Is there any documentation or example for the filter options on the
meta information screen?

I have tried just about every filter option, but I can't figure out
what combination is needed to allow successful submission of selected
options into my database, and successful retrieval (which means the
selected options are highlighted) from the DB when looking at a
particular product.

I searched in the mailing list archives and the online doc without
success. Can anyone offer some guidance?
