[mv] problem with search in minivend
****** message to minivend-users from Chris Rapier <rapier@psc.edu> ******
More of an asthetic thing than anything else though.
I've been playing with the basic demo and slowly changing it to look
more like what we actually want. Part of that was rolling in a new
database. In this database the "category" field contains two words
seperated by a space (eg baseball cards). When I initially tried
entering one of the categories from the 'home' page the seach pattern
returned by minivend would usally just be the last word in the category
field (eg, if the value of the category field was Baseball Cards I would
only see Search Results -- Cards on the results page). This lead to
problems as it would return bogus items.
I tried enclosing the category field value in quotes and that took care
of the bogus results and truncated Search Results. However, its now
escaping out every space with a backslash. Now the reuslts page gives me
back the right items but its reports them as "Search Results --
Baseball\ Cards".
Is there any way to supress that backslash or force the search routine
only return hits on the exact phrase?
I'm sorry if this is less than clear. I can try providing examples if
necessary.
Next on the plate... learning how to use conditionals.
