 A couple of years ago when I still used Windows for anything "HotDog"
did support "custom tags". I used them for several things then, similar
to your needs now. I presently use "CoffeeCup HTML Editor++ for Linux".
It supplies a similar custom tag setup called "snipetts". They tell me
they are improving it to work as a true custom tag with "Highlight and
Insert" capability.
