make not found - Could NOT install.

Please explain what's wrong.

Target system info...

Linux Mandrake v 2.1
Perl v 5.00503

This is what I did...

1.  Downloaded minivend-3.14-4.tar.gz to /usr/local/src as root.
2.  Executed gzip -dc minivend-3.14-4.tar.gz | tar xvf -
3.  Executed cd minivend-3.14-4
4.  Executed ./configure
5.  Entered /usr/local/src/mvend as answer to "Where is your minivend to
be installed?"
6.  Received this error

    ./configure: make: command not found
    ./configure: make: command not found

This seems like a simple problem.  Please send suggestions.
