That is the default if you install as root. If you input a different
directory when prompted it will definitely use that; I have tested that
one repeatedly.

I just re-tested this on Linux. I see no reason why it should be different
on Solaris. You might try updating Perl, as 5.00501 has some bugs that might
pertain. 5.00503 has been out since March, 5.00502 since August '98.
