setting a variable with mv_searchspec

Hi!
I've been having problems with this one....my guess, its not difficult...but
it is giving me a hard time....
I just want to assing the value of mv_searchspec to a variable for later
use...
i tried
[set variable]
[value mv_searchspec]
[/set]
but nothing happens when i use [value modelo].....
i tried using [value mv_searchspec] in other pages, without success.....i
even used [scratch mv_searchspec]
Can someone 'throw me a bone'....hehehe
