Locale, case sensitive and sort order!

Hi Mike,

i apologize for my bad english and i apologize for my question about the
trouble with Locale, case sensitive and sort order. I have taken times
to check my all codes and right setting of my OS (FreeBSD 3.2).

I have check the sorting order (without minivend, internet and browser)
with a dirty little perl script like

-----snip------------------------------------------------------------
$in = "/home/mvend/export/index.asc";
$out = "/home/mvend/export/index1.asc";
open(IN,$in) || die "kann $in dateiname nicht zum Lesen öffnen: $!";
open(OUT,">$out") || die "kann Ausgabedatei $out dateiname nicht zum
Lesen öffnen: $!";
%icnt = ();
while(defined($line = <IN>) )
  {
    $_ = $line;
    $icnt{$_}++;
  }
@list = sort keys %icnt;
    print OUT @list;
close(IN);
close(OUT);
-----snip------------------------------------------------------------

The index.asc is a file with all one word in each line from the
products.asc file, created by another script. Regarding the german
umlaut (ÄÖÜ), i get all words with this german umlaut extra seperated
from the chraraters "AOU".

An example:

AIDS
Abenteuer (Adventure)
Abstieg (Descent)
Adam
Adler (is a name or as animal "Eagle")
[DEL]
Arbeit (Work)
Arbeiter (Worker)
[DEL]
Artikulationsstörungen (trouble of articulate)
Asien (Asia)
[DEL]
Ärger (vexation)     <----- wrong place

Normally, the kind of the german sort order is
An example:

AIDS
Abenteuer (Adventure)
Abstieg (Descent)
Adam
Adler (is a name or as animal "Eagle")
[DEL]
Arbeit (Work)
Arbeiter (Worker)
Ärger (vexation)    <------ right place
Asien (Asia)

(The correct sort order with german umlaut is a word like a word without
any umlaut. Hi german people, am i right?)

OK! I can write a extra perl script to sort all words to the right
place. But this is not the problem. I will tell you later why (see
down).

Another trouble is the tag "mv_case". All lowercase words works well
with Powersearch in my srchform page (Please! See
http://www.buchonline.net/cgi-bin/bol/Srchform ). For example:
Searching for a word "blind" or "Blind" i get 13 times. If i go to the
link "Stichwort-Register", click the character "B" and click the link
"Blind", i get 2 items.

The difference is, i use a form tag in my srchform page and in the URL
"Stichwort-Register", i use the scan tag. I have use "cs=0" or "cs=no".
No success!

I have read the german perl cookbook and i find the information, that
using the perl syntax "tr" to make any value lowercase or uppercase,
something goes wrong, because you get trouble with any umlaut and with
english umlaut too. (This book tell me so or i have misunderstood the
book. Please! Don´t misunderstand me! I´m a newbie in perl!). A sure
using of lowercase or uppercase syntax is, e.g. the syntax "lc" for
lowercase. I have looked into the Search.pm and i have not found the
syntax "lc", but the perl syntax "tr" only!

Maybe, this is a problem by perl only? (Sorry! But is this sentence
right?)
Or is this a problem by wrong setting in my OS "FreeBSD"?

Once more!
Please! Don´t understood me wrong! Minivend is a very nice software and
i have never seen this kind of a very flexible software.
Mike, i want to support you, because you work very hard to support us.
You have asked the list about any trouble with the locale setting. I am
suprise, because i have never seen any feedback from the german people
or another people in other language. For example "Hi, i have no trouble!
I us this and that! etc....".

I think, we all (all of we?) get a nice software for free and all of we
(?) get a lot of helps from this list. So on, all of us have support
Mike Heins to get a right solution. I want to help any people as soon as
i can or give them any solution, hints or tips, because i get all helps,
if i need any help and we are able to use a nice software from Mike
Heins.

I apalogize, if i am off topic or i am on a wrong way and disturb this
list. Please, feel free and let me know!
Mike, i apalogize, if my englisch is very very bad. If you need a right
feedback and you have trouble to understood me, let me know and i fetch
a person, who can use englisch very well.

Joachim
