use an external payment service

I am using MV 3.12 on FreeBSD, Apache and Solid
I want to use an external tool for the payment service because this tool 
supports special Dutch payment methods.
Until now I used the OrderCounter from Minivend.

I added the payment tool between the order and final order pages. When the 
payment methods returns, the order becomes final.
The problem here is that the payment tool wants to have an order number. At 
the moment the order is not yet final, I don't have an order number.
Is there a way to split the 'order final' part into getting an order number and 
the rest?

One way to solve it is usng my own order number, but I prefer to use as 
much of minivend as possible.

If you have a solution, please let me know.
