Re: DBI.pm placement

Hello Karl,

I had a problem with the Minivend not being able to connect to the
DBI::mysql driver. Minivend failed then to install the catalogs. This was an
error generated in line 192 of the DBI.pm module in the Minivend directory
you were referring to. There was a also the suggestion that I had no
DBD::mysql driver.

You probably know that for proper use of DBI, three Perl-modules are needed:
                   1) Perl DBI-module
                    2) Data-Dumper
                    3) Msql-Mysql modules

(to be downloaded from www.wipol.uni-bonn.de )
Install them in the given order on your system.
Note the following: ad. 1: after extraction:
                                            perl Makefile.PL
                                            make
                                            make test
                                            make install
                                            (then: wipe out the directory
from which you installed!!)
                                    ad. 2: after extraction:
                                            same commands as in ad.1,
however, the make install screen output advises you to remove a "dated"
Dumper.pm in the /usr/lib/perl5/5.00404 directory (on my Linux box, that
is). Follow this advice and execute make install once again.
ad. 3 The same procedure. This actually
installs the DBD:mysql driver.

Hopefully, I have well interpreted and subsequently answered your question.
I myself had such trouble configuring this, that I made up my mind to make
this known to the outside world.

Greetings,

Fred Veenstra ( artsenev@wxs.nl )
