RE: problems with IE4.0 browser settings in LAN test environment

What he is asking has to do with the network and shouldn't be MiniVend
specific. Even if he hosted another test domain on his test server, he
would run into what he is seeing with or without MiniVend.

He has issues with his network configuration... Actually, from the error, I
would guess his proxy server. Sounds like he's not using masquerading or
his ipchains/ipfwadm configuration has bugs with the firewall so that it's
not performing transparent proxy.

MiniVend will mostly be fine when you move to your server at your isp.

Good luck...

Subject: problems with IE4.0 browser settings in LAN test environment

Hi,

I am a Dutch Minivend user and prior to setting up my own server at my ISP
I
laid out a small test-LAN of 2 computers: a Linux server on which Minivend
runs and a Win98 client for the testing. Suddenly I realised that from
IE-4.0 I could only contact the Minivend server by selecting both the
option
"Connection via LAN" and "Connecting via proxy server" in its options menu!
So: when I use "Connection via LAN" only, I won't get any connection at
all.
When the second option is added I do get a connection that works fine.
My question: has this anything to do with the fact that I am running
Minivend on a LAN, or will future websurfers have to adjust their browsers
also after my computer has been installed at my ISP? (I think buyers are
likely to stay away when they are asked to change their browser
settings...)
I would be grateful if anyone out there could take away this anxiety.

Thanks in advance,

Fred Veenstra, Assen, Holland
