Help with shipping straight lookup

Hello,
Just needing some help with a straight look up for
shipping with minivend. 




In my shipping.asc i have the following:

code     description criteria min  max     formula
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   0     0 e Nothing to ship!
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   1     20      5.00
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   20.01 35      6.00
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   35.01 50      7.00
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   50.01 75      8.00
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   75.01 100     10.00
myupsg   UPS Ground  price   100.01  99999999 12.00

My CustomShipping Directive in the catalog.cfg is set
to:

CustomShipping   Yes

and yet the [shipping] tag returns 0 when i call on it.
and it doesnt add anything to my [total-cost] value. 

and i get this error:

Custom shipping field 'price' doesn't exist. 
Returning 0


this would lead me to believe that I need to put
something other than   price    in the the criteria
field to simply do a straight look up on the total of
all the items pre-shipping?
