I think that your complaint is the same as most people new to Minivend. I
had the same initial reaction. Ultimately I understood that Minivend,
because it is very customizable, because it has to do many very different
things, and because it must interface with many other pieces of software
to do its job, defies simplistic explanations. There is not just one, but
several exceptions to everything in Minivend, and good reasons for it to
be designed the way it is. I think Mike Heins is pretty clear upfront that
you need to give it a lot time and eventually Minivend trains to think
like it works. Part of struggle is Perl, which Larry Wall (who I don't
know at all) describes as a Postmodern language. Perl gives those trained
in C fits because it is not orthogonal. Eventually you will surrender to
it.
As for MiniMate, it is very new software. Give them time and support. It
will come together.
