Ouch.  The "file" command under Unix (and variants) should report back
that the binary is the wrong type.  I don't have anything but Intel boxes
here, but I remember on Suns that it will report something like:

SPARC binary executable

or something similar.

Some credit card clearing operations give you a Perl client.  I think I
got one from PaymentNet...  It should run anywhere.

I am running MV on a Pentium 166 with few performance problems.  Of
course, we don't hit it that hard.  The only part that is slow is
switching from HTTP to HTTPS.  For some reason, that takes a long time.
