sql/scan searches

a quick question about single-click sql searches with scan.

the demos have single-click searches such as:

	..."[area scan st=sql se=[loop-field category] sf=category]"...

and these expand to URLs for the specified search.

	...http://site/cgi-bin/catalogname/scan/...proper escaped search
specification ...

I try to do what looks like it ought to work:

..."[area scan st=sql sq=select code from products where
category=[loop-field category] and isnull(otherfield)]"...

from the way I read the docs, this should be legit. However, it generates
a bogus URL that looks like:

	...http://site/cgi-bin/catalogname/[area scan ... verbatim quote
of the unescaped search specification]...

is it possible to do a more sophisticate search like this, or the 'sq'
illegal for [area scan ...] constructs?
