Question about .asc files...

Hi again.

I was wondering just how minivend handles the .asc source files.

For example, I know that when it sees a file change, it will re-import the
products.asc file, but I'm keeping a inventory file (inventory.asc) which I
notice it has made a .db out of.

I want to be able to both modify the inventory file through minivend tags
AND through external methods (my own perl script, specifically).

Is there any way I can make sure that both methods are seeing the same data?

(sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense - my thoughts are hard to
put into e-mail.)
