hi,

i suspected as much so i downloaded/built perl 5.005_03 and i no longer
get that error.
the results say:

server.......ok 1
socket link..ok 2
2 tests run, all tests successful.

however, 'simple' is still unable to communicate with minivend.
i can reach minivend at port 7786 with my browser however.
