I wasn't subscribed to the list when I sent my first post, and I didn't know

No, it isn't. Maybe it would be if ImageDirSecure was being used at all, but
what I'm getting in the output is
<IMG SRC="http://www.example.com//smallvisa.gif>
and Netscape won't show it because it's an http image being referenced from
an https page.
If I set IMAGE_DIR to / then I get <IMG SRC="http://product.gif> on the
product pages, and <IMG SRC="https://smallvisa.gif> on the ordering page.
So I ask you, what configuration _does_ work?
