I use Roxen as my http server and images while secure work fine for me... I have MV
running with SSL3 which maps to a real directory /pub/www/minivend/ and with in this same
directory is midwest-mi/images where midwest-mi is the same name I use as the catalog
name.  In my catalog .cfg file, I have:

Variable    IMAGE_DIR    /midwest-mi/images

defines and all works great...
