Sure.  We have minivend pages that maintain the mysql db for minivend 
catalogs, images, products and all sorts of auxiliary databases.  It's
technically straightforward.  There is no particular code for it, just
SELECT and UPDATE (with SQL anyway).

It is, however, no substitute for training your clients.  Bear in 
mind as well that a GUI web interface to catalog is tedious for any 
catalog with more than maybe 50 items.  Beyond that a batch system or
some sort of direct database to database glue is the only realistic
solution.

If your clients are having a hard time transfering products.asc, you might
make a file upload for them.  If they are having a hard time **making**
products.asc you need to train them.
