Catalogs in 3.12 usable in 3.11

Hello!
Sorry for a simple question but before I go into the deep hole
working on the demo pages that are in 3.12, can those be used in
version 3.11?
Our ISP hasn't moved to 3.12 until it becomes final and I really like
the switchable way the demo in 3.12 has frames and no-frames
rolled into one. Next question would be if it can be, can I just copy
the files up or do they need to be done with the cat installer? I
know I have to add the lines in the catalog.cfg that are in the 3.12
