Can't say for sure, but you might want to try quotes around the argument
to your sub:
[perl arg=sub interpolate=1]
affiliate_check ("[loop-data affiliatesdb affiliatecode]")
[/perl]
> > affiliate_check (AC662003)
Because if this is the error, you probably want it to be called as
affiliate_check ("AC662003")
