Sort an Arbitrary DB file

I have a table with 2 fields in it, category and code. It is listed as an Arbitrary DB in the cfg file and I can hit the file and retrieve the category entries with the [tag each] tagging
but sort does not work and I have tried several possibilities. I using ver. 3.12. All other tags are working fine in relation to that file. Any ideas?
