Trying to make "Keep Shopping" return to previous product page

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a button, or link, on the basket page to replace the
default "Keep Shopping" arrangement with one that will consistently return
the shopper to the last product page they were on before the basket page,
instead of always taking them to the catalog page.

I've had -some- success with using [data session prev_url] to obtain the
"previous page" information needed to make this work. That parameter only
points to the desired place under limited circumstances, though - like when
the shopper simply chooses to view the basket again, and they come from a
static page. If they come from a search results page (and most of the
product pages are delivered that way), or have just added an item, the
prev_url is /process or /order instead of the results page they came from.

Any ideas on how to get this to work?
