Using .PDF files with MV

I know that MV can serve up a .PDF file, what about letting it parse it
for active URL's in the content?  It appears that MV assumes that all
file types are .html which makes sense and explains why when my
/cgi-bin/midwest-uk/test.pdf is used, I get a non-existent page error.
If I rename the .pdf to .html, I get the raw data streamed and looking
at the content, I can't see if MV was successful at the preprocessing.
I know I'm probably opreating way out on a limb trying this, but is any
of this possible at all?
