Drop Down with search feature?

How do I get a drop down to execute the search query.
I want it to work like the links on the demo (eg. Impressionist link),
but I want a drop down to execute the query instead of the link.
Do you still use? ==>  [page
scan/mp=0/se=Impressionists][L]Impressionists[/L][/page]

without the [L][/L] tags?

Do I need javascript to execute the click event?
