HELP expireall -r :: Revisited

Hi All,
    OK, I have found that if I chmod -R 777 * my catalog directory, it will
start working again.  But, as soon as I run expireall -r it stops working
again: "premature end of script headers".
    I ~am~ running expireall -r as root, could that be killing it, and
should it be?
