MV on win98 what a tangled web we weave
****** message to minivend-users from greg strockbine <gstrock@dpc.com> ******
Just an amusing anecdote....
I tried installing minivend on my win98
machine. Ran setup.bat:
- told me I had the "Active" port of perl when I
don't
- asked me if I had the DB perl module, I didn't.
Attempted to fetch it, but failed.
- told me it couldn't find ppm.pl and bombed out.
That's needed by the active port of perl.
So.... I decided I'd go get the DB module myself.
- installation instructions ask for the location of
db.h .... hmmmmm ... don't have it.
- so went and got the Berkeley DB package.
Huh? no binaries, have to compile it. Ok, I've
got gcc on my machine.
- but wait, its expecting Micro$oft c
- by this time it was mid night and I was stopped cold
in my tracks, had to wait to go to work and get the
Micro$oft C CD.
I know, someone is going to tell me I don't need that
DB thing.
Here's what's funny, I really intend to use MiniVend on
a unix box but thought I would get a head start by installing
it on my win98 machine, I'm used to just dropping in
binaries.
