Re: Misc: ATTN Brian T Allen or anyone else
****** message to minivend-users from "Brian T. Allen" <brian@purenetfx.com> ******
Ron (and anyone else in his shoes...),
I am 25 and have been working on computers for 3 years, 2 of which were
full time as a technician/manager of a computer store. I didn't really have
a background in software/programming, or the Internet. I knew nothing of
perl, Linux, or Minivned until May 1998. I wasn't entirely satisfied with
my current situation and started Pure Net FX. I spent 4 months, about 12
hours a day, learning Linux and Minivend. I am really just now learning
perl.
There is probably a much better way to learn both Linux and Minivend.
After 8 months in business I am just starting to make a profit, but I think
that will grow rapidly. I have really "front-loaded" my business, taking
out loans to learn up front so that I could spend the time learning. I am a
one man business, so I have had to learn it all.
Enough of my history, I would say the thing that has helped me the most
in gaining Linux knowledge is those around me. I have several friends and
many associates that have a long background in Unix. If you can't swing
that, you can still get a lot off of newsgroups or www.dejanews.com. Same
goes for perl, and the camel books help a lot too (the great thing about
perl is you can study other peoples "source code"). You're in the right
place for learning Minivend. I almost always get answers to my questions
here, and often find stuff I wasn't looking for. I was amazed at how fast I
was able to apply Minivend and get results that none of the other ISP's had
really accomplished, or atleast not good. I have had a really good
experience with Linux and Minivend.
I hope that helps, keep in touch,
Brian T. Allen
