I think you missed the point.. but thanks any ways.. I am not on the MS
thing... I use WinNT workstation but all my systems are Unix.. it's the
trend of my clients which leads me to question using anything else.. that's
all. I've been playing around with minivend for just over a month BTW... I
know the last message was long. .but please read it if you plan to respond..

Re minivend and mysql when all my clients use MS SQL and IIS

Well, I hit reply and all that came up on the screen was
your Windows font type not supported. ;^) That's OK
because it emphasizes the point I wanted to make.

MySQL isn't going to have any problems with .5M records in a
database. Minivend isn't going to care how many items
are in the database. You will have to make sure you don't
return unformatted tables with that many records, but
that applies to any catalog with more than maybe 50 items.
If you write a bad query, well, it's going to take a long
time no matter what db. If you think that is
mySQL's fault, use Oracle, Sybase, Informix or DB2 -
I think anything supported by perl DBI will work,
probably even DBI::CSV (ugh).

My point is that if **ALL** your clients are on the
MS thing and you yourself are, then why would you want
to confuse the mix? If you add minivend and mysql to
MS SQL, MS IIS and so forth you are only geometrically
increasing complexity and your own personal admin nightmare.

That being said, you ought to be able to get minivend and
mysql running with a demo catalog in less than a day; that's
less time than it will take to "research" it. What
will you do when you've tried Minivend and mySQL
and find they work better than the others? ;^)

Best,

cfm
