It's more difficult than that, but you'll learn a lot in the process...
If you don't know perl you may stop reading, this won't help you.
First you need to pretty much duplicate the server on your local machine as
much as possible. You should have the same version of cpu and perl, and
replicate the directory structure of your ISP.
Create a new user for minivend. Next do an install of minivend on your
'mirror'. Make sure you activate and configure all the remote catalog
configuration stuff, and the site administration stuff. Configure all the
perl scripts in mvend/bin.
At this point you will have learned a lot about minivend configuration and
now you will need knowledge about perl.
Get CGI.pm from cpan (unless you have it, which is likely), read the
documentation, and learn how to use the CGI module.
Put the necessary cgi stuff around mvend/bin/check, make sure all the paths
are correct, then put the cgi in you cgi-bin directory. The whole output of
the check script should appear in the webpage. If you have your own httpd
error log put lots of 'print STDERR "what is happening";' lines into the
script. Stop minivend if it is running. Now try whether you can run the cgi
via a web-browser, and whether minivend starts. If something went wrong,
you can check the httpd error log for possible causes.
If all went well, you can now copy the whole minivend user directory to
your ISP account, and install the cgis. Run the cgi on your ISP account. If
there are problems your httpd error log will show you what happened.
Once minivend and mv_admin run, you made it.
I have done this once, with minivend 3.06, and so I can say this is
possible. I also have an ISP with full telnet access now.
Good luck, Frank
