In a form you pass variables with:

<form type="hidden" name="mv_value" arg="myvar=my text here">

In a on-click search it's, for example:

<a href="[area href="scan" arg="se=my search/va=myvar=my text here]">

One the page that the above commands link to, you would put:

[value myvar]
