RE: New Question: PGP and SSL security question
****** message to minivend-users from Erik Aase-Remedios <erik@fourfish.com> ******
IMHO get an inexpensive package if the package will do the job. The RedHat
Secure Server is exactly what you are doing yourself, but all the details
are taken care of and it's an rpm install. It's $99 from their website and
cheaper through places like linuxmall. In version 1.0 they needed more
detail in the book about generating the key the correct way (email me if
you have troubles as this is the wrong list for that).
You will still need PGP. I'm also of the mind that everyone needs PGP no
matter what they do, but that's another story too.
I've posted before about where to get PGP and my opinion of commercial
version versus freeware, and so have others.
For Linux/Unix the Commercial version is presumably still sold by NAI but
it's not on their website anymore.
For RedHat the Binary Freeware Version of 5.0 which does both RAS & DH/DSS
is found at <http://web.mit.edu/network/pgp.html>. You MUST be in the DNS
to download from this site (and you must be in the US).
There are also RedHat RPMs out there (see <http://rufus.w3.org/linux/RPM/>)
called "pgp-2.6.3-4us" and "pgp-5.0i-6" but I've never used them.
