[item-field] is failing -- can't debug!

I have a big problem.  Apparently something in a Perl rebuild is causing
problems, but I can't figure out how...

DBI is running well, so is Perl.  I've reinstalled Minivend 3.11 (even tried
3.12beta6, same issue).  The problem is that the [item-field] tag is now
returning empty for all my custom fields in the product database.

[item-code] and [item-description] seem OK.  Just my fields are not
working...

I have a product database defined thusly:
Database        products        products.asc    SQL
Database        products        DSN             dbi:Oracle:jaguar
Database        products        USER            xxx
Database        products        PASS            xxx
Database        products        NUMERIC         RETAIL_PRICE
Database        products        NUMERIC         DROPSHIP_PRICE
Database        products        NUMERIC         TOSTOCK_PRICE
Database        products        NUMERIC         SUB_PRODUCT_CODE
Database        products        NUMERIC         CARTON_INCR
Database        products        NUMERIC         CARTON_INCR_PRICE

And I try to reference the, say, TOSTOCK_PRICE in a flypage or item-list:
[item-field TOSTOCK_PRICE]

And nothing comes out.

Incidentally, has anyone tried to enable debugging on 3.11 or 3.12?  I can't
get any debug output... And a ton of syntax errors prints out, needing
fixing before the server will start.  This been checked lately?

Appreciate any advice anyone can spare... was supposed to be in alpha test
today. :-(
