UserDB functions

How do I perform multiple userdb function calls on a single mv_click?  I
posted a question weeks about asking my new_account didn't leave the
person 'logged-in' by default and it went without comment.  I'm running
in circles on this with attempts like:
[set Save New Account]
  mv_doit=refresh
  mv_todo=return
  mv_failpage=new_account
  mv_nextpage=ord/basket
  [userdb function=new_account]
  [userdb function=login]
  [userdb function=set_billing  username="[value mv_username]"
                                nickname="[value mv_username]"]
  [userdb function=set_shipping username="[value mv_username]"
                                nickname="[value mv_username]"]
[/set]

[set Save New Account]
  mv_doit=refresh
  mv_todo=return
  mv_failpage=new_account
  mv_nextpage=ord/basket
  [set name=Force_New_Account_Action interpolate=1]
  [userdb function=new_account]
  [userdb function=login]
  [userdb function=set_billing  username="[value mv_username]"
                                nickname="[value mv_username]"]
  [userdb function=set_shipping username="[value mv_username]"
                                nickname="[value mv_username]"]
  [/set]
[/set]


which neither work... MV ends up directing to an error page and the logs
report that no action passed from form...
