Shipping / Totaling Problem

Sorry for the second post, but I keep reconfiguring and trying perl and
still cant get
total-cost to include the shipping (mv_handling)

Here's thge details on my problem...

My problem is that the customers normally figure their own shipping charges
(due to long distance and random differences in the shipping of
Over The Road Carriers), so on the "checkout" page,
I added a field so they can input a "shipping" cost that will total with the
rest of the Order / Quote (they can also use the script to create an online
quote for job cost purposes).

I started using the mv_handling , and it would display,
but I could not get it to total with the [total-cost] tag,
so it doesn't do what I need it to (include shipping in total cost for
display purposes)
(unless I am doing the mv_handling wrong)

How can I add the shipping total on the fly rather than force a lookup?
We do not us UPS or USPS at all due to heavy weight.

Anyone have any insight?

note:  I am using MV 3.11 and a Linux Server with Perl 5.004
