Problems with gcc (Tlink & Vlink)

Hi

I am trying to install minivend 3.11 or 3.12 (Beta). When the configure
script tries to compile tlink or vlink the following error occurs:

[root@islinux src]# ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot creat
e executables.

I realise that this is an error somewhere in gcc. I have removed the gcc
package and reinstalled it. It has not helped.

I really don't want to reload the machine just for this.
