How to create a custom price function?

I've been puzzling over this a while... I've got a pricing structure that's,
well I'll just say quite screwy. Each item has a carton qty and a couple of
prices, and I have to charge for each item ordered based on partly carton
price and partly unit price. I don't know if you really want to hear about
it... :-)
It would be much easier for me to just write a Perl function to calc the
final price. I've been studying things like CommonAdjust, but can't make
any sense out of the &(CODE) paragraph.
Is there an accepted way to have MiniVend just call your custom function
when it needs a price for an item?
Thanks for any pointers anyone can throw my way. Appreciate it.
